Flood ProblemsAs a population, and its expectations grow, there is an increase in demand for housing, employment, energy and food. Burgeoning demand on land, for development, food production and farming of energy crops leads to a wider variety of sites being built on; some of which are at risk from flooding. Climate change (greatly accelerated by man’s activities) could mean that there will be less land available as areas are lost to sea level rise or frequent flooding. |
What is LifE?The LifE Project identifies ways in which flood risk management may be integrated with sustainable, zero carbon, responsible development. 'The LifE project encourages much-needed integrated thinking about the complex challenges facing urban development in the 21st century. The guidance is full of creative solutions and thought-provoking design approaches.' Anna Penning-Rowsell, CABE ‘The Homes and Communities Agency welcomes this guidance, as it takes what can be difficult to grasp issues and places them in an easily accessible context. As it has been produced from an architectural background, this handbook brings a fresh perspective to the topic of flood risk, as well as appealing to a wider range of professionals.’ Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) |
